Natural Geometry table, 2025
Douglas fir
2400 x 830 x mm
This project explores the tension between geometry and nature through the construction from two slabs of two inch thick fir - the top is a single piece of wood, the ends carefully cut to be very straight, and the long edges left in their natural state. The "tension between the geometry and the natural" - this idea, which I have had since visiting Donald Judd's studio in Marfa in the 1990s, is also influenced by the concepts of "chance vs intention".

Book Launch
On Friday September 29th, the official launch party for Tool Book, a collaborative project by 2017 Artist in Residence, Sarah G. Sharp, will take place at SOHO20 Gallery in Brooklyn. During the event, contributors will read and perform poems, songs and other texts related to Tool Book.
Tool Book is a compilation of the texts, images and objects that edify, inspire, support and radicalize - in a time of deep uncertainty and resistance. Simon Aldridge created a special series of collaged photo drawings to be included in the book, edifying how we connect with each other in our shocking political moment, and provide a way to raise needed funds to protect our most threatened communities and values.
